ROSLYN, N.Y., Oct. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Physicians' Reciprocal Insurers ("PRI"), the second largest admitted medical malpractice insurer in New York State, today announced it is has become a Corporate Member of the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine (SIDM). "SIDM's vision of a world where no patients are harmed by diagnostic error is well-aligned with PRI's philosophy of educating our Insureds about factors that contribute to such errors," said Dr. Sanford Goldberg, a member of PRI'S Board of Governors.

PRI takes very seriously the need to educate physicians on the most current concepts in diagnostic error reduction. To that end, the company has worked closely with Dr. Pat Croskerry, a pioneer in the diagnostic error reduction movement who has authored over 80 journal articles and 30 book chapters on patient safety and clinical decision-making. Together with Dr. Croskerry, PRI has developed online and live patient safety programs open to both its insured professionals, and other physicians.

Because the majority of medical malpractice cases in the United States involve diagnostic error and a delay in care that negatively impact patient outcomes, PRI is a strong supporter of the work of SIDM to improve diagnostic accuracy wherever possible.

"When physicians are knowledgeable about the issues that result in diagnostic delays and errors, claims frequency can be significantly reduced," Dr. Goldberg added, "The devotion and dedication of the physicians, scientists, and researchers at SIDM is truly impressive and we are honored to partner with them to improve results for patients."
