Physician Investment Group Finds Success with Its Portfolio of Companies

DAYTON, Ohio, Nov. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Physician Investment Group, an investment fund founded by Dr Amol Soin, has found success in 2017. Soin, a practicing physician and researcher, has built a portfolio of mostly Ohio based biotechnology companies. In most instances, Soin has served as an active member on the Board of Directors, Clinical Advisory Board, or has been a co-inventor on multiple products in the portfolio. Physician Investment Group has provided angel/venture capital investment in all of their portfolio companies.

This year Physician Investment Group's portfolio of companies has started to mature. Neuros Medical, a Cleveland based Biotech company that is developing a platform technology to treat chronic pain, attracted a $20 million venture capital investment in 2017. Soin serves as Director of the Clinical Advisory Board and conducted Neuros' early clinical trial work for the first two in-human trials in Dayton, OH.

Thermalin, another Cleveland based Biotech company working on novel insulin molecules, has recently signed a deal with Sanofi that provided a $17.5 million venture investment and could generate up to $788 million for Thermalin, making it one of the largest research and development commitments for next-generation insulin.

China Rapid Finance, a peer to peer lending company, had an initial public offering (IPO) in April 2017 on Nasdaq this year raising approximately $60 million and it is currently trading at around 58% above the IPO price.

Another portfolio company, Soin Neuroscience, is developing a new nonnarcotic painkiller to treat diabetic neuropathy. They recently signed a licensing deal for one of its drugs which Soin is a co-inventor of, for milestone payments of $225 million and an additional 7.5% royalty. Soin Neuroscience has many other patents and products in development with various mechanisms of action to treat disease states such as chronic pain, post stroke syndrome, and intensive care unit myopathy. Soin Neuroscience also provides clinical trial services through its research lab in Centerville, OH oftentimes partnering with other large biotech companies to complete clinical trial work for those larger companies.
